This is a pefect example of user generated content. This video is a user made "alternative ending" to the video game "American McGee's: Alice", a very twisted story based of Lewis Carrol's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland " and "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. " The user McGeesJabberwock made an alternate ending in which ends unhappily, in which Alice did NOT defeat the Queen of Hearts, but looks so authentic to the actual game its really impressive. The user even went out of their way to make official looking credits. The only time it divered much from American McGee's: Alice (and the only indication of it not being an actual alternative ending besides for the video's description) is the song "In a World All My Own" from Disney's animated classic "Alice in Wonderland" that is played in slow motion and cleverly placed in the background as the camera is traveling though the halls. Because of it's athentisity (minus, of course, the very few flaws in the audio where you can faintly hear some overlapping) I think it is very effective. I mean before I read the description, it had me going to look for how to unlock this alternative ending to the game. To show you the unbelievable likeness it holds to the actual game grapics, here's the actual ending to the game so you can also see the referenses in the alternative ending. WARNING: if you are extreamly squimish, I wouldnt advise watching this video. Strong Violence. (you can stop at 4:35, I couldn't find a better video, sorry)
In the world of user-generated content, each one of us is capable of becoming an overnight sensation. As we observe, discuss, and analyze Web 2.0, we will start to unravel what it means to live in Web 2.0. But mostly—as this is above all a writing course—from the first day of class, we will compose an exploration of the many forms and types of media that make up our daily experiences. In doing so, we will compose a living record of the what it means to create and compose in Web 2.0.
