REMIX OF ORIGINAL VIDEO:
The original video of Antoine Dodson is, without a doubt, humorous in many ways! Although the situation is a serious one - Dodson's sister's apartment was broken into and she was nearly raped - Dodson's way of speaking is absolutely hilarious! Many people thought just the same, because the video went viral and was all over the news. However, just when one would think it couldn't get any funnier, it does...thanks to the remix!
The remix of the original Antoine Dodson interview cuts straight to the point (and humor). The remix doesn't show the news anchor, but instead, goes straight to Antoine Dodson's actual interview. All of a sudden, a catchy tune/beat is applied to the video. The tune isn't serious whatsoever, and there are no actual lyrics, so although it's catchy and upbeat, it doesn't distract from what Antoine Dodson is saying. The remix becomes hilarious because it not only has Dodson's interview, but backtracks on the funny things that Dodson says, basically his "punchlines", although at the time, he was very serious (another reason this is so funny!). Another difference between the remix and original video is seen in the remix...the original video never contained those "video captions", the one seen on the actual video during certain points, as the video progresses. The remix contains these little captions throughout the video, all funny and mainly sarcastic little lines. At the end of the video, though, the creator "pops up", playing the piano and dramatically singing parts of Antoine Dodson's interview. This was the only part of the remix I disliked, for it was unnecessary and not funny at all.
However, the purpose of the remix remains true to the original video's purpose: attempting to get a good laugh out of a ridiculous and then-upset Antoine Dodson. In my opinion, both the original and remix videos succeeded in its purpose; to make some of us laugh! Both were equally funny, and although remixes have the capability of sucking out all the humor from the original joke, and many times does, I don't believe it did that in this case.
The video is definitely humorous! The song is stuck in your head after a while and its still in the back of my mind. I think the original is just to report what had happened, just plain news. The remix is more humor and intended to be funny.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a funny remix. The guy got famous off of it and they were even selling the song on iTunes and made a soundboard app about it.
ReplyDeleteA few questions.

What constitutes a song lyric? Can any text utilized in a remix be considered a lyric?
You write that the tune was not serious. But I could argue it is. Why?
Why do you think the original--which was produced by a professional media person--is so funny?
The video was definately funny. It was interesting how a news report can turn into commedy such as this. The creater of this video was effective in making a joke out of what happened
